WEEK 1 HIGHLIGHTS – August 9-16, 2025
- Veronica MacLellan earned two bronze medals at the 2025 Canada Summer Games (para women’s 400m freestyle and 100m backstroke), becoming the third-ever swimmer to win a medal at the Summer Games and second Team PEI athlete to earn two medals at a Canada Games. The last Team PEI athlete to earn two medals at a Canada Games was Jared Connaughton in 2005 who went on to compete in the Olympics. Veronica also finished in 4th place finish in the Para Women’s 50m freestyle, and a 5th place finish in the Para Women’s 100m.
- Men’s Baseball records best-ever 4th place finish at a Canada Games.
- Tennis records best-ever 7th place finish at a Canada Games.
- Women’s Softball records best-ever 7th place finish at a Canada Games.
- Women’s Basketball finished in 7th place, a great improvement from the 10th place finish in 2022.
- Men’s soccer finished 7th place overall, a huge improvement from 10th place in 2022.
- Women’s Lacrosse had first-ever lacrosse wins (two) at a Canada Games.
- Ryan Reid, at just 13 years old, breaks three provincial records in the pool in the following events:
- 800m freestyle – finishing with a time of 9:11.69, breaking the previous record of 9:13.65
- 1500m freestyle – finishing with 17:45.03, breaking his previous record of 18:22.42
- 200m butterfly – finishing with 2:33.78, breaking his previous record of 2:30.04
- Team PEI swim team sees incredible improvement. At the last Canada Summer Games they had one swimmer advance in 6 events. This edition of the Games, they had 11 swimmers advance in 26 final events.
- Despite several postponements, Team PEI sailing athletes performed well on the water. Nadia Carr finished 6th overall and Ellis Starkes finished 7th overall. The men’s team finished 8th overall.
- The Canoe Kayak team put in a great effort all week and recorded several notable finishes including four top seven finishes for Bianca Batten.
- The Cycling team had great performances in all of their races this week recording multiple top 30 finishes.
- Men’s rugby made its return to the Canada Games and their debut for 7s. The team finished in 9th place recording three wins.
- Women’s rugby finished in 8th place with notable wins over Yukon and Manitoba.
- Men’s basketball finished in 11th place with wins over Yukon and Nunavut.
PREVIEW FOR WEEK 2 – August 17 – August 24, 2025
- Artistic swimming will make their debut in the Canada Summer Games.
- Decorated Special Olympics, Keegan Waite, will race in the 100 & 200m dash
- Women’s baseball will make their debut at the Canada Games. Their first game is on August 19th.
- Team PEI wrestling carries two U17 nationals gold medallists and will look to carry that momentum into the Canada Games.
- Other competitions to keep an eye on include men’s box lacrosse, mountain biking, golf, women’s soccer, and both men’s/women’s volleyball.
