St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador – Team PEI Men’s Baseball team finished in fourth place at the 2025 Canada Summer Games, following a close game losing 4-2 to Team Saskatchewan in the Bronze Medal match on Saturday at St. Pat’s Ballpark in St. John’s, NL.
“A fourth place finish and an opportunity to play for a medal at Canada Games was certainly a highlight for our squad at Canada Games. It was a historic finish for baseball and all of the accolades go to our players with tremendous performance after performance,” said Bob Doyle, Team PEI Men’s Baseball Head Coach.
This is the best overall finish by a PEI Baseball team at the Canada Summer Games, and the first time finishing within the top eight since 1969. PEI’s only medal in a team sport at Summer Games came in 1993 with men’s softball earning bronze.
“Our pitching was excellent all week, led by Richard Osoteo with a complete game in the bronze medal game. Despite our offence slowing the last few games, we were one of the higher scoring teams of the tournament. We also can’t speak enough about our team defence, we were well prepared. It was a tremendous amount of fun and excitement to be around,” he added.

“Coming fourth place in a really huge tournament against some of the best players in the country was a really incredible experience, especially since I was sharing the moment with a great group of teammates and coaches,” said Richard Osoteo, Team PEI men’s baseball athlete. “It really shows that the team’s hard work has payed off, but also shows that PEI can compete and stand against any province. I was really surprised and honoured when the coaches chose me as the starting pitcher in the bronze medal game against Saskatchewan.”

To get to the bronze medal match, PEI went undefeated in round robin play with a 4-0 record and defeated Team British Columbia 3-1 in the qualification round to clinch the top seed of the semi-finals. Alex Curran led the way in the win over BC, pitching a complete game with only 5 hits allowed and batting in 2 RBIs himself. The team dropped their semi-final 7-0 in a tough rematch with BC on Friday, sending PEI to their first-ever bronze medal game.
“It was an honour to represent my province and be a part of such a historic team,” said Alex Curran, Team PEI men’s baseball athlete. “It demonstrates the talent we have here on PEI and should really excite everyone about the bright future of baseball on the Island. It was an experience I will never forget.”
“The fourth place finish that we had was amazing. It’s one of the best feelings that I’ve ever experienced in my life,” said Evan Mabey, Team PEI men’s baseball athlete. This team that we had this year is the most special team I’ve been on. The fourth place finish just shows how much work and time we’ve put into it and it payed off for us.
