DAY 2 DAILY SPORT HIGHLIGHTS 

Beach Volleyball

  • Game 1 – PE vs. NU – Team PEI women’s beach volleyball wins 2-0 against Team Nunavut to kick start Team PEI’s competitions for the 2025 Canada Summer Games.
  • Game 2 – PE vs. NWT – Team PEI’ Women’s Beach Volleyball took Team NWT to the only 3 set match of the day. Winning the first set 21-19, falling short 15-21 in the second set, then winning the third 15-7! Next Game is August 11th at 1:30pm NST against NL.

Basketball (Women’s)

  • PE (74) vs. NT (24) – Team PEI women’s basketball secured a win on the first day of competition with a 74-24 lead over Northwest Territories. Team PEI’s Flag Bearer, Alex Newson, brought the heat in her first game. The full game stats can be found here.

Basketball (Men’s)

  • PE(78) vs. MB (102) – Team PEI men’s basketball lost 102-78 against Manitoba in their first game of the week.

Box Lacrosse (Women’s)

  • PE(5) vs. SK(8)- Team PEI box lacrosse came out firing scoring the first two goals of the game against Team Saskatchewan. PEI kept the lead after the first period and went into the last period of play tied 4-4. Saskatchewan scored a few quick goals changing the momentum and ended up taking the win 8-5 over PEI. Next game for PEI Lacrosse is August 11th at 2pm NST against Team NL.

Soccer (Men’s)

  • PE (0) vs. AB (3) – Men’s soccer fell 3-0 to team Alberta in their first game, they held on in the second half and allowed no goals against.

Softball

  • PE(0) vs. BC (15) –Women’s softball lost 15-0 to British-Columbia. Despite the tough game, the girls stayed positive and supportive of their teammates and had solid at bats at the plate.

Swimming

  • Team PEI made a splash on the first day of competition at the 2025 Canada Summer Games. 14 year old Veronica MacLellan makes history with our third-ever swimming medal at a Canada Games in the freestyle para 400m race. Also making history on the first day of competition was Ryan Reid, who competed in the very first swim of the Games for Team PEI. Ryan set a new provincial record in the men’s 800m freestyle, finishing with a time of 9:11.69, breaking the previous record of 9:13.65. Here is a summary of the results:
  • Women’s 1500m Freestyle
    • Mya Stevenson – 21:23.16 – 20th
    • Hannah Bradley – 21:56.53 – 21st
  • Men’s 800m Freestyle
    • Ryan Reid – 9:11.69 – 14th
    • Phoenix Li – 9:39.10 – 19th
  • Para Women’s 400m Freestyle
    • Veronica MacLellan finishes 3rd place, wins bronze medal
  • Women’s & Men’s 4x200m Freestyle
    • Men’s – 8:21.15 – 9th
    • Women’s – 9:44.01 – 10th

Tennis

  • Both Charlie Montgomery and Adriana Lanza secured wins against Northwest Territories with 2 sets to 0.
