MacGrath and Matheson earn silver and bronze wrestling medals at 2025 Canada Games

St, John’s, NL – Team Prince Edward Island’s Keely MacGrath (women’s 65kg) earned a silver medal and Alexsa Matheson (Women’s 59 kg) won a bronze in wrestling at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland & Labrador. The pair will now add their names to PEI’s list of Canada Games wrestling medallists. The accomplishment truly speaks to the dedication of both athletes and the support of their coaches, teammates, family, and friends.

Keely MacGrath (W 65 kg), 15, Fort Augustus (5-2)

Gold Medal Final: Loss to Alberta’s Paige Veloso by points.

Semi-Final: Defeated British Columbia’s Kaiya Mannapso by pinfall.

Preliminary round: MacGrath lost her first bout with her counterpart from Alberta and rebounded with wins over wrestlers from New Brunswick, Ontario, Nunavut, and Northwest Territories.

Alexsa Matheson (W 59 kg), 15, Hazelbrook (5-2)

Bronze Medal Final: Defeated Saskatchewan’s Angelina Singh by pinfall.

Semi-Final: Lost to British Columbia’s Kai Pare by a pinfall.

Preliminary round: Matheson had wins over New Brunswick, Alberta, Nunavut, and Northwest Territories, while falling to her competitor from Ontario. 

Wrestling has been PEI’s most successful sport in the Canada Summer Games, medaling six times since 2009.
