“It’s always such an honour for an athlete to be selected as a flag bearer”, said Team PEI Chef de Mission Jo-anne Wallace. “Ryan and Ella are so very deserving and will do a great job leading Team PEI into the opening ceremonies!”.
Ryan Dwyer, of Stratford, has used hard work and commitment to balance a national level gymnastics training schedule at the Island Gymnastics Academy and his Major U18 Charlottetown Knights hockey schedule and has excelled in both sports. Ryan competed Nationally in gymnastics last year and has been a key contributor for the Eastern Express hockey program and the 1 st place Charlottetown Knights this season.
“Ryan is a gifted, hardworking athlete and exemplary teammate. He is a pleasure to coach, and will represent PEI well.” – CJ Keliher, Men’s Gymnastics coach.

Ella and Team Lenentine became Curling PEI U18 and U21 2023 provincial champions this year and will compete at 3 National events this year, including the Canada Games.
“Ella shows great leadership and brings out the best in her teammates. Ella is passionate and has a calmness when she is throwing the final stone. She has learned to adapt to high pressure situations and carries herself on the ice with a quiet confidence.” – Amy Duncan, Curling PEI Executive Director.
There will be over 250 athletes, coaches, technical support, and mission staff representing PEI at the 2023 Canada Games. Team PEI will have 23 teams competing in 19 different sports throughout the Games. From February 18th to March 5th, 2023, more than 3,000 (?) young athletes and their coaches will gather together to compete for a place on the podium in Canada’s largest multi-sport event.
The 2023 Canada Games will be PEI’s biggest sporting event of the year and we can’t wait to share our wonderful province with the rest of Canada. It has been inspiring to watch the work that has been done by our athletes, coaches, and support staff in order to prepare for a Canada Games at home. Show them your appreciation and help us cheer on Team PEI on home soil!
