Since 1967, Islanders have been representing Team PEI at the Canada Games. These multi-sport games which take place every second year toggling between summer and winter sports have been hosted in all ten provinces and the Yukon territory. Since then, over 6,000 Islanders has participated in the games.
Team PEI, which is governed by the Provincial Canada Games Committee Inc, supports the athletes and coaches in their pursuit of excellence. For some the Canada Games represents a pinnacle in their sporting career while for others such as Heather Moyse, Dave "Eli" MacEachern and Jared Connaughton it is a springboard to National Teams, World Championships and the Olympics.
Each set of Games, the chef de mission, along with mission staff work with more than a dozen different provincial sport organizations to work their way through the process of participating in the games. Each sport follows their own plans around coach/manager selection, athlete try-outs and training and then the various stages in preparation so they are at their best to represent our Province at the Canada Games.
Team PEI has had a long legacy of very capable Islanders representing our province at the games of which some went on to do great things in the sport world while others took their leadership skills to other sectors in our province and around the world after the Games were finished. Team PEI salutes all those who have been part of the Canada Games as member of our team.
